Repertoire
Prospective members seeking section positions must first receive permission from the section principal to rehearse with the orchestra for one cycle. An audition for the concert repertoire will be held before the concert. Acceptance into the orchestra is based on audition performance and regular attendance at rehearsals. Section members are allowed a maximum of two absences per cycle, but most maintain perfect attendance.
Utility Musicians
A utility musician, or an uncompensated voting member, is an auditioned musician who plays occasionally required parts such as the third trumpet, third flute, percussion, and more. They also have reduced attendance requirements.
With the music director's approval, the principal determines the attendance requirement for each concert. If a section has an opening, a utility musician may be offered the position without another audition if recommended by the principal.
